CLI runs a tailor-made course for the GIZ/SIECA in Central America
12-01-2011 - The CLI conducted a tailor-made training "Working with Stakeholder Dialogues" at the premises of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) in Guatemala City, Guatemala between the 28th of November and 1st of December 2011.
On the invitation of SIECA and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH 30 participants from 5 different Central American countries attended the training.
Continuing globalization and the expansion of international trade are putting more and more pressure on the small markets of the Central American countries. One approach for increasing competitiveness on the world’s markets is to create a regional economic area. In this context, the GIZ provides advisory services to SIECA, which was founded in 1993, for the programs conceptual planning and its implementation.
Together, SIECA and GIZ made possible that employees and counterparts of two additional GIZ projects took part in the workshop: The project “Desarrollo Económico Sostenible en Centroamérica (DESCA)” which in cooperation with CENPROMYPE and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America aims to establish a coherent regional and national system of innovative micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Central America, as well as the Subregional South-South Cooperation on HIV/AIDS.
During the course the participants learned tools and models for planning and implementing result-oriented Stakeholder Dialogues and applied them by further developing and analyzing their respective cases. Institutions from different sectors sent their representatives to take part in the course: Amongst others trade associations like the Chamber of Commerce Nicaragua, AGEXPORT in Guatemala, the Ministry of Foreign Trade in Costa Rica and the Ministry of Health in El Salvador. On the last day the participants received their certificates from Lic. Ernesto Torres Chico, Secretary General of SIECA.
